Reporting an error

This is the message that gets answered first. If a calculator gives a result you believe is wrong, please send the calculator name, the inputs you used, the result you expected, and — if you have one — the standard, datasheet or textbook page you are checking against. The fastest way to send the exact inputs is to press Share link in the action bar: every input is encoded in the URL, so the link reproduces your calculation precisely.

Every formula on this site lives in a tested pure function, and each page cites its sources and the date it was last reviewed. That machinery exists because a single wrong formula would undermine all 15 calculators. Corrections are genuinely welcome, and confirmed ones are fixed and re-reviewed rather than quietly patched.

Requesting a calculator

Tell us what you are trying to work out and, ideally, what you currently do instead — a spreadsheet, a nomogram, a table in a standard. Requests that come with a worked example and a citable reference move to the front of the queue, because those are the two things a new calculator cannot ship without.

Embedding and licensing

Any calculator can be embedded in a course page, wiki, forum post or company intranet. Open the calculator, press Embed, and paste the snippet. Embeds are free and need no permission; we ask only that the attribution link stays in place. If you need a different size, a fixed set of default values, or an embed without the attribution for an internal tool, write to us and say what you need.

Corrections to the content, not the maths

Typos, unclear explanations, a reference table that is out of date, a standard that has been superseded — all worth reporting. Standards move, and a page that cites a withdrawn document is a slower failure than a wrong formula but a failure all the same.

What this address is not for

We cannot review your schematic, size the service to your house, or sign off a design for code compliance. Every calculator states its assumptions and cites its sources so you can check the work, but the responsibility for a real installation sits with the qualified person specifying it. For safety-critical or code-compliance decisions, verify against the governing standard and your local authority.

Response times

ElectroCalculators is a small operation. Error reports are usually answered within a few days; feature requests may take longer, and not every request results in a calculator. You will always get a reply to a genuine correction.
